ACID ARAB BRUVS

ACID ARAB BRUVS

Acid Arab have been on my radar for a good couple of years now after hearing their 2015 self titled release. The absolute standout track for me on said release was the very chuggy ad psychedelic Madad
I believe I even contacted the AA fellas hunting for a vinyl release of this… sadly to no avail.
Moving on, however, today’s track comes from their most recent L.P. “Musique De France” (and yes it comes on high quality 2 disc wax as well as all the other usual mediums). Stil is a chuggy, moody at times percussive roller with hints of (you guessed it) acid. Cem Yıldız’s droning saz and the multi-tracked vocals on ‘Stil’ tie it all together into the perfect tune that you could imagine Weatherall or Sean Johnson slipping into one of their A Love From Outer Space sets at 5am.
I’m super excited to have these two down for the Coconut Beats of the Middle East party at PHONOX this Saturday. Stay tuned for some big old news tomorrow…. until then… love ya’s, hasta mañana mi bonitas xx

TOO LONG BETWEEN BEATS

TOO LONG BETWEEN BEATS

It seems I’ve left it too long between posts, however sometimes life throws you a pretty mega curveball and you gotta ride that big ole wave into the shore.
So to lighten the mood I’m going to get things rolling by posting this special little burner that was sent to me yesterday by someone equally as speshy.
Kondi Band is a collaboration between Sierra Leonean kondi (thumb piano) player Sorie Kondi and US producer / DJ Chief Boima, who himself has Sierra Leonean roots.
In my opinion his voice sounds like Sierra Leone’s answer to Arthur Russell with every element that we here at COCONUT BEATS HQ love.
Enjoy and I’ll be checking in again later today with some VERY BIG updates. Love ya’s xxx

A LEISURELY CONNECTION

A LEISURELY CONNECTION

Come with me on a journey to the tweakier side of things… Here is one of my favourite 12″s…
I have long been a fan of These guys… Leisure Connection is two American indie dudes making club music, and, in a good way, it shows. The duo is Aaron Coynes, who’s one half of Peaking Lights (love), and Nate Archer, his former bandmate in another duo, Rahdunes.

I’ve met Coynes once where I used to play in East London. Besides Leisure Connection and Peaking Lights he’s also know for his epic record collection and being an all round pretty cosmic rad dude. On this particular night he was playing records with Tom Furs of the Horrors. His tunes were what I imagine heaven to be, if everyone there drank Electric kool aid and smoked doobs all the time. Enjoy…

Khidja El is a Romanian producer with the original spirit of Balearica in his blood. The thoroughly haunting “Drums Of Taksim” fuses traditional Turkish melodies and doomy guitar twangs with a devastatingly honest spoken word. One of the most important tunes to come out in the past few months.

A heavy listen x
